The Active Power ZSR is High Tech simplicity. We started with a clean sheet of paper and designed a straight forward solution to the need. We wrestled and wrestled with which direction to take.  Did we to build around "authentic" 40 year old technology or did we incorporate the advances in suspension design? This was our dilema. After much deliberation it really came down to tires. The advancements in tire technology just can’t be ignored. To duplicate suspension geometry that was intended to work with tires of the period would be a mistake.

In the 60’s suspension was designed around a tire with extreme sidewall deflection. That’s just the way it was. The tires of today have little or no deflection and the suspension needs to work with that. The trend in recent years has been around "Zero Scub Radius". This is why you see wheels with deep back spacing working with suspension that has zero or should we say minimum scrub radius. Zero Scrub Radius simply means that the king pin axis intersects the ground at or near the center of the tire patch.

With the investment being made in one of these Replicas, it seems foolish, if not unsafe to utilizes antiquated technology. We all love the deep dish 15 wheel with knock offs but it is next to impossible to get that wheel and the high scrub radius associated with it, to work with a modern tire. The relationships between the tire manufacturers, the race engineers and the chassis designers is the pulse of motor racing. The results of those relationships feeding each other and advancing technology, ends up on the showroom floor.

Enter the C5 Corvette. in 1997, Chevrolet turned the world upside down with the introduction of the 5th Generation Vette. Race breed state of the art technology for the masses. That technology is harnessed in the Active Power ZSR Chassis. Not only is it state of the art, but the hardware is readily available and very affordable. Forged aluminum control arms and uprights, 4 piston racing calipers, 13" vented rotors, anti squat and anti dive developed on the worlds racetracks, available to us in the salvage yards. We’ve simply duplicated the C5 geometry around our mid engine monocoque style space frame. The chassis accepts the Audi, Porsche, or Mendeola transaxle.
